Cool Yule

Howdy everyone!  I saw this great holiday themed tutorial with an upcycling twist today and thought I'd share the link with you.  Lori at Pretty Little Things has created a "yule log" stocking stuffer package from an empty toilet paper tube and a couple of egg carton cups.

Now before you start hollering, I know most of our readers don't do the super-cute-pastel thing!  Therefore, I challenge you to create a yule log "stocking stuffer" package of your own with some outsider-artist flair that you are all known for.

As always, if you create something from one of our postings, please add it to our Flickr group and link to it in a coment so we can all see!

Whatcha Whatcha Whatcha Want? (whatcha want?)

The Beastie Boys pose an excellent question and now, as a representative of Scary CRAFT, I ask it of you.

Since we're in our winter hiatus, it is a great time to once again assess our monthly craft night and see if you have any suggestions to make 2010's Night of the Creators the rockinest craft night Sacramento has ever seen.  Everything is up for discussion!

  • what are your thoughts on our location?
  • is our setup (seating, lighting, etc.) effective?
  • what do you think of the free craft / live tutorial alternate month schedule?
  • does the last Tuesday from 6-9pm fit into your schedule?

If we're thinking of improving our craft night, we might as well extend that to our online presence!
  • more event / show / product reviews?
  • guest blogers or more regular blog contributors?
  • ypdates on NotC events?
  • something way cool I haven't even thought up yet?
Hey, you "long distance" Scary CRAFTers!  We want to pull you into the fold.  What can we do to include you in the Scary CRAFT experience?
  • challenges?
  • more interaction with the Flickr group?
  • online tutorials (from you maybe?)

Like I said, everything is up for reconsideration!  If you are hesitant to post your ideas here or if you have a concern or a question, you may e-mail me directly at scarycraft@krissisandvik.com (your w-mails will not be published - I promise).

I look forward to hearing from each and every one of you!

Crafty Chica's Tips for Handmade Vendors

It's that gift-giving time of year again! The handmade movement and the downturn in the economy have paired up and attracted more and more holiday shoppers to craft fairs. People are looking for special gifts for their loved ones rather than just spending a large dollar amount.

For those of you who sell your handmade lovelies at this or any time of year, our pal Kathy Cano-Murillo offers you some tips for making your customers' shopping (and your selling) successful!

Diary of a Crafty Chica: Tips for crafty vendors this season!

Do you have a favorite tip that isn't included on her list? Post it here and best of luck to all of you!

CANCELED - Oct. Night of the Creators

You know what's REALLY scary?? When one of the Scary CRAFT coordinators has a persistent ear infection and the other has a family member recovering from a triple bypass! Luckily my infection isn't from a zombie and Yoli's step-dad is doing well, however, there is a bit of bad news: We were scheduled to have a knitting extravaganza tonight at our final Night of the Creators for the year, but it looks as if forces beyond even OUR control have conspired to prevent it. So sad.

We'll consider scheduling a special 'fall & winter crafts' session in the next few weeks, so stay tuned. In the meantime, I invite you to download a free skull and crossbones knitting/crochet/cross stitch design I created last year.  Use it in good health.

Free Crafting Freedom!

Although I'm not the mommy of anything except fur-children (and two with scales), I don't get caught up in the annual back to school mayhem I know a LOT of you Mommies are going through / have gone through this month.

So, why not grab something (anything!) you've been wanting to work on, leave the kids at home and join us for a night of chatting, technique and tip sharing here in good ol' Sactown? Let's celebrate!

You've Been BEGGING Us For The Last Year!

You know, for a live crochet tutorial!  We may move as slowly as tacky glue in January, but we DO move.  So without any further excuses, we're bringing you one of the make-and-takes you've been begging us for:

For this month's craft fest, Jenn de la Fuente of Rosebud Designs will be at Scary CRAFT's Night of the Creators to teach us the basics of crocheting while we make one of her super-cute designs - a mini-wallet.

These little cuties are convenient for use as a business card holder or for a few bucks and your ATM card when you're having a night on the town.

Important stuff:
  • Be on time if you are planning to take part in the tutorial (otherwise, show up whenever and work on whatever you like - we don't mind, we're just happy you're crafting).
  • What to bring:
    • yourself
    • size "I" crochet hooks if you have them - Jenn only has a few.
    • something to sit on.  We expect this to be a very crowded event, so don't blame us if you end up sitting on the floor (dude, it's FREE).  Oh, and we just might be your new best friends if you come early (5:30) and bring extra folding chairs & a table or two.
    • you may bring some acrylic mid-weight yarn to play with if you like, but Jenn has some for you too.
We hope to see you there!

psssst!  Next month Jenn's coming back to teach us how to KNIT so we'll all be ready when the weather gets cold again (hard to believe that will ever happen with the string of 100+ days we've been having though, huh?).

xoxo
